As a staunchly “Merino” family, you can only imagine what it took for us to cross over to the dark side and develop a stud based around another breed.

But we’d recognised the number of clients who were running first-cross operations alongside their Merino flocks. Having witnessed the outstanding growth rates of Suffolks through the operation of the Southrose feedlot, we believed that this was the breed that would deliver results to our clients.

Southrose Suffolk, prior to its dispersal at the end of November 2011, was a stud made up of approximately 200 stud ewes primarily from Letts bloodlines with a focus on birth rates and ideal conformation. Southrose was committed to joining through AI programs each year to both proven Letts rams as well as introducing new genetics to meet breeding objectives of improving mothering ability and growth rates year on year.
